94 z28 transmission problem

I have a 94 z28 with an automatic transmission that has been having a problem. It runs fine but the transmission doesn't seem to want to downshift unless you shift for it. It still upshifts just fine though. I have no idea what the problem could be. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Re: 94 z28 transmission problem

Transmission are hard to diagnose and first thing to do is check the level and condition of the fluid. If those check out the best recommendation I can give is to find a trustworthy shop to diagnose the problem for you.

Re: 94 z28 transmission problem

I was talking to a guy I know and he said it might be a vacuum leak some where. Is that a possibility and if so any suggestions on where to start looking?

You have a 4L60E "e" for electronic, vacuum should not be a factor.

Re: 94 z28 transmission problem

Someone on another board said to check the detent cable. Could that be causing the problem?

Re: 94 z28 transmission problem

yes, it could be a number of things from a 'simple' mechanical issue to a sensor/pcm problem. Just get a few different estimates, don't go with just one!

good luck
