Hey,
my name is Timmy and Im gettin' to the age where I can start driving and suddenly has an interest in cars. Except I know nothing about cars... where would someone like me start to learn about cars??? |

If you have a chance, take an auto mechanic course in your school.
Hang around guys who like to work on cars. Observe and ask questions. Don't ask questions all the time or you'll piss them off. Just time them so that they can tell you're interested. Some jobs need two people. Ask to help. Read magazines related to performance cars. They will steer you toward big money modifications, which are beyond your means currently, but they will give you a background in the technology and terminology, as well as engine construction. Go to howstuffworks.com and read about how engines work, how transmissions work, how differentials work, how fuel injection works, etc. A good source of technical articles and automotive information links is Kevin Sullivan's Autoshop 101 site: http://www.autoshop101.com/ Good luck.
