Are you throwing a CEL? My son's 'venge had the exact same problem, and threw a code for the throttle position sensor. I had it wired upside down following a motor swap - long story - fixed the wiring and no more tranny problems. Not to suggest that you necessarily have a bad TPS, just the point is that the transmission relies on various sensors to determine shift points.
The other obvious thing I have to ask is: do you have enough ATF in there and is it ATF +3?
