2002 Bravada rear instrument cluster problems.
I have a 2002 bravada with a 4200 vortec in it and for some reason the rear instrument cluster stopped working. The display does not display anything, the audio does not have any sound, and the climate controls do not work and no air hot/cold comes out of the vents. What does work is the the lighting of the words and symbols on the buttons. I checked the fuse for the climate control system but it was good, I even switched it out to make sure, still the same problem. I also took the center cubby hole out, under the armrest in front, and check for loose wires and still couldn't find anything that could be causing it. Any ideas?
Thanks for reading, Efius |

Re: 2002 Bravada rear instrument cluster problems.
wish i could afford one of those fancy smancy new fangeled Bravadas with all that extra electronic stuff. not realy, i like it simple
recheck your fuse panels, all of them. you never know how they might wire things together. The back lights on your controls are energized by the headlight switch with is on a seperate circuit. if you don't find a blown fuse look for a bad ground. a bad ground that shows up suddenly is usualy from a recent repair where something wasn't put back together right. have any repairs done lately? i found a website that looks like the motherload, anybody have a password or hack into this? http://service.gm.com/index_en-US.html |

Re: 2002 Bravada rear instrument cluster problems.
Well, I had an oxygen sensor replaced recently, and the tires replaced. Those are the only times I was in the shop. Tonight, I took a meter to the connector that connects to the back of the rear control monitor, and it seems, that everything is getting power. Any Clue?

I keep seeing electrical/electronic devices at work that require powerdown then restart to reset troublesome problems. After doing some searching, I found an instance of this procedure on automotive control modules.
Disconnect the car battery for at least 20 minutes making sure there are no battery powered devices plugged in like a cell phone and charger. While disconnected do a little battery maintence, take a minute to clean your battery cables Reconnect and see what comes back. |

you may have power, but without a good ground there's nowhere for the power to go. almost all electrical circuits in vehicles have power always supplied, but are activated by opening a path to ground.a quick check for bad grounds is to check for voltage on your coolant. with the engine cold remove the radiator cap and start the enginge. put one lead in the coolant and the other to a frame ground. voltage on the coolant should be less than .03 volts, any thing more indicates bad grounds. Chris is right, try disconnecting and cleaning the battery connections first. |
