Engine "sputters" during hard acceleration!

Now I know that the obvious answer would be, well don't mash it......When I do get on it even just a little bit, the engine sputters, almost like a backfire but not loud and I can tell it's robbing me of power! Oh yeah, my car is '96, 4.6L, about the only modification is a 73mm throttle body and a FIPK kit. Any ideas? Thanks for reading!

I spent weeks chasing the loss of power under acceleration in my 83 Bronco II. I felt like it was going lean. After three carbs and a carb overhaul, I realized it was always the same regardless of what I did. DAH, it must be in the ignition. I changed the coil and it ran great. Your problem could be similar. Under acceleration, cylinder pressure goes up and it takes more voltage to spark the plugs. A week coil, bad wires, or bad plugs could be to blame. Plug wires go bad more often than coils. - Scott

Re: Engine "sputters" during hard acceleration!

after you check the fuel filter I might look into getting it tuned for your upgraded mass air meter..
