The French forum member has trouble with Overhead Console......
Hello Everybody,
A poor French Blazer owner is in trouble with ambient air temperature displayed on the overhead console. Please help him ! My Blazer is a 2000 , 4,3l, 4WD, 4 doors. I have the short overhead console with sunroof which indicate crazy temp. When in the garage and switch on ignition temp is ok. To get outside temp it takes around 5 minutes of driving. After around 20 minutes temp falls down to 20°C and after may go to 3°C when it is 28°C outside! I have change the ambient air temp sensor. I have made the checking procedure indicated here http://www.s10forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=214399. No wrong code displayed meaning the electronic unit normally good. Please could you, please, tell me: if there are connections in the wiring under the dash or under the hood to check and where? If I have to change the electronic unit even if I have no error code (rather pricy…..219$ plus freight). A component failing when hot? Thanks for help and suggestions. If you're getting that much of a temp discrepency while driving and you've changed the temp sensor on the core support, I would have to say it is the display unit. To be sure though, meter the other wires coming from the display to make sure they have good continuity... Especially the VSS wire.

Thanks for answer but:
Is what you call VSS wire the one which is wired on position 3 of the "black" connector of the computor under the hood? |

Re: The French forun member has trouble with Overhead Console......
Just an update:
As suggested I have checked the VSS wire which seems OK (but I am not a specialist). I have rewired a good ground: no change!I have ordred from "OEM DIRECT" a new electronic compass unit and installed it: No change! But I have discovered that on defrost position and higher vent position on the heater control panel that I have not the strong blowing as usual..... Due to the fact that the ambiant air sensor has a connection with the electronic heater contol panel, I have taken the decision to drive my "dear Blazer" to the main importer in France who is the "Jean Charles garage" close to my home in Paris. They re specialised in the GM cars since 1948 !!!!! I will let you informed hopping it may help another forum member..... Once more, many thanks for support |

Re: The French forun member has trouble with Overhead Console......
My 2000 2wd Jimmy has the same set-up and the temp gage always shows 3°-10° F too high. I have been told that it is normal and there is no fix. I started a thread on his subject myself a few years ago to no avail.
If My dealership thought for a minute that there was a good fix, I'm sure they would have quoted me a price, but they said I just have to learn to ignore the gage as it is more of a novelty item and was never intended to be real accurate. So before you dump shovelfuls of cash into fixing this gage, beware of a Dealer that wants to Sell you a fix.

Re: The French forun member has trouble with Overhead Console......
Hello,
Final update. It is OK now! A wire broken somewhere giving from time to time an "half open circuit". After having checked all the wiring without result the garage has decided to run a new wire from sensor to the compass unit (ground was OK). They charge me only two hours ! They have really passed one day and a half to check everything including BCC and ACC control panel. In fact on the 2000 Blazer there are 2 air ambiant sensors (one on hatch support, one on radiator side behind the grille) the one for the overhead is on hatch support the other is for AC and the schemes from GM are splitted and do'nt specify the 2 sensor but only the indication outside temp sensor. So it's easy to understand that there is only one sensor and to search on the wrong way ........ The overhead console sensor was falled behind the hatch support under leaves at bottom of the radiator which was confirming the possibility of only one sensor..... Wires were hurted due to that...... Many worries for nothing but happy to know that it's not frezzing in France mid of July!!!!!! Once more thanks for the support of a very useful forum! |
