No Kia's really are junk, look at the kia carnivals for example, 50,000 made with faulty head gaskets, they are cheep garbage ready to drive down to the tip. As far as Japanese cars go I think most of them are works of art, take the toyota camry for example. Take it in for a service at 200,000 Km not one drop of oil underneath it, if it was a holden or ford it would need about $3000 in oil leak repairs.

You can't single out KIA as a manufacturer for crappy engineering. EVERY manufacturer has their problems, even Toyota. Google toyota engine sludge or the problems they were having with EVAP systems. Subaru has had a lot of trouble with headgaskets and oil leaks are somewhat common. I could go on for awhile on this subject.
