91 talon... BUY OR NO BUY?

If this is in the wrong sub-forum(probably is) I'm sorry but, I didn't know where to put it. Anyway, I have been looking for a daily driver and I found a 91 talon. Has the 4g63 motor in it but no turbo. Car has 160k miles on it with a possibly rebuild(guys isn't sure if his brother had it rebuilt), new brakes, new vacume lines, new valve cover and seals, and comes with an extra set of 4 used tires and 1 new tire. The car will need a new clutch sometime in the near future and it will also need a front end alignment. They car looks very clean and the looks of the engine bay suprised me(cleaner than mine). The car is primered except for the front bumper and corner panels which are purple. He took me for a ride in it and the car runs fine, except for going into first from a stop. Everything else is cool except for the oil pressure gauge does not work and a cracked reflector in the back(no biggy). He wants 1,200 for it. I do not know if I should get a new head and HG and fix my car or just get this car now. Keep in mind I am deff getting a DD adventually, this just sorta landed in my lap.

I would say no. Get the cheapest Honda you can find for a DD and keep the rest of your money for the current DSM.

Re: 91 talon... BUY OR NO BUY?

I was looking for a honda from the start. However, cheap hondas are hard to find. To find a honda for less than 1,000 it would have to have 250k miles or more. My brother just got lucky and found one for 500 bucks thought(150k miles) but, it has a blown headgasket. Maybe I'll keep lookin and get lucky.

Re: 91 talon... BUY OR NO BUY?

Only thing that sucks is that I have to drive my eclipse with the blown headgasket every day to work and back. It over heats slightly then I drift in neutral untill it goes back to normal temp. I have done this for a week now and it is frustrating, annoying, and time consuming as hell. I am ready to buy a damn head or a beater. A beater is lookin like the easier thing to do right now. I am still not sure I can do my head swap on my own. I think if I don't find a cheap honda by the end of this week I'm going to have to do my head job though. Mehhhhh... sometimes I just want to cry.

Re: 91 talon... BUY OR NO BUY?

If you can get the Talon for ~600, then I would go for it, but not any more than that if it needs or will need all that stuff in the near future. You definitely need to find a DD though because driving your car like that is probably not good for it.

Re: 91 talon... BUY OR NO BUY?

Oh, I know its not good for it. That is why I decided to just go all out and get a new head. I don't know if my current head is warped yet or not but, I figure I have to treat my car after beating her lol.
