problem with radiator????

Well i have a problem with my 91 honda civic hatch back. everytime i run it to around 50 to 60 miles the temperature gauge starts to rise. And one time it went all the way up to the H in the freeway so i got off and started taking small streets. once i got home i checked to see if it had water or anything and it was all full. so i checked everything else like the oil. and everything seems fine. but once i was driving i kind of noticed that the radiator fan didnt turn on. i think thats the problem. unless the fan is so quiet that i cant hear it? well what does everybody think?

Re: problem with radiator????

let the car warm up for a few minutes and the fan should kick on.

After lettting the car warm up feel both radiator hoses. If the top one is hot and the bottom one is ice cold, your thermostat is definitely sticking. Get that replaced. Also make sure you are not leaking any coolant, double check the radiator and all your hoses and also around the water pump area. Good luck.

Re: problem with radiator????

IMO I think you should check the radiator too, it might be blocked internally or some of the fins have rotted away decreasing the radiator's ability to disipate heat. Because at those speeds and above there should be plenty of air to keep the temps under control.

You can check the fans manually, the plug for the radiator fan is under the battery. Just use test wires to hook it up to 12v. The temp sensor for the fan is located on the back of the block below the intake manifold.

The fan relay is on the passenger side near the headlight. To check the fan relay (it should be clip side up) there should be continuity between the upper left (a) and lower left (b) connections when 12v is applied to the upper right (c) and lower right (d) connections. GL

Code:
 Fan Relay
