Re: motor mounts question

Cross member the same if you are asking about six cylinder motor mounts and V-8 monts. You need to cut the six bangers out and weld the V-8 in.

i currently have a 307 and plans are for a 350, but while under the car last night i notice the engine mounts where off center of the cross member.
is it because of the 307 being a later year motor? off center in sence that not all the bolts are are on the crossmember. will the 350 put in back in the right position? : center" ? what a quick way to tell a 307 from a 350?
thanks

Re: motor mounts question

When you whack off or take off the 307 which ever one you have to do mounts things should start to look right. If they unbolt and the 350 bolt back good but if someone has been there and done some mods before, you might have to cut the 307 off and weld the 350 on.
The motor IDs are located on the front of the block right under head. Sitting in car left head, looking under hood right head. If the alt. and stuff is still on in most cars you can't see it any way but if it is out of car and you have a rag and some WD-40 you can clean it up. Look up your code.

Re: motor mounts question

Your 307 mounts should work fine for a 350. I used the same mounts for a original 283, swapped in a 327, and 350 in the same car.

Re: motor mounts question

By what I could tell of the pictures you sent me every thing should work fine and the 350 should drop in no problems. By the way I want to tell you joe that is one fine looking machine and I have a buddy that would love to have it (can't wait to show him the pictures). He had a '68 back in his younger days and your's will bring back the goo ole days.

Re: motor mounts question

Don't have no reason why unless it is out of a stolen car and the numbers was grounded off so it could not be traced.

If you are talking about the stamped number on the block on the right cylinder bank where the head bolts on. They are removed a lot of time during a re-decking of the block.

Also I used 350 mounts when I installed the 396 into my 69 chevelle , no issue's. The 307 mounts are taller then the 350's and if you have air cleaner to hood clearence issue you may want to be careful. I've heard tale of guys doing this swap, slamming the hood and winding up with a big upside dent in there hood....
