1983 Porsche 944

Hey Porsche guys! I've been looking through classifieds and I noticed that I can get a 1983 944 for a relatively small amount of money (under $5000). Would you suggest buying a 944 that has about 110000 miles on it? The only thing I know are Hondas so I'm not sure if 110k is too high or not. Also, do any of you have 0-60 and 1320 times, engine stats, etc? If so, I'd love to see them.

The 0-60s time is around low 8s to high 7s. It has an 2.5l 163hp 4 cyclinder engine. Car handles great. These cars last for a long time so if the car has records and shit then it's a good buy. These engines go to like 200,000miles before you need to rebuild the engine.

Would I be able to use it as a daily driver? Also, how much would it cost to maintain yearly with, say, 15000 miles a year? Just wondering if the car would be convenient.

Yes you can drive it everyday these cars actually will start to brake down if you don't drive them every week. It will cost around 1000-1500$ each year to drive. Plus insurance will be alot since its a freaking sports car and that the oem parts are expanisive to replace if you get hit.

I'll try not to get hit . But with the car costing a relatively small amount I'll have more money for insurance. I'm afraid that is where all my money might go though...

Don't know much about the 944 insurance cost but for the turbo it's fucking killing me doesn't help if you are 18 either. lol

The parts are more expensive than your run-of-the-mill cars. So don't be deceived by the low purchase price of an old Porsche.

1987 911 Turbo 3.3 engine(300hp) 0-60: ~5s
1989 911 Carrera 4 3.6 engine(250hp) 0-60: ~5.5s

You can't try to not to get hit. There's always the idiot that runs a stop sign. (happened to me 2 days in a row, the second day was a speeding, lieing priest. I'm very dissapionted because im catholic and to see someone holy lie like that, just makes you wonder. HEY I'M 16 TOO! I currently own a 1969 911 Targa which I bought for 4,300. The engine WILL run, but when it does, its loud like a 60's beast, smokes so much you can't see the sky, and all the oil blows out in a couple minutes. I'm still trying to find out whats wrong. Porsche dealer says to he will clean carbs for 90 bucks an hour, 9 hours! Get out! So I will have to somehow deal with that. Might be the piston rings, might be gaskets (but my uncle says the oil is coming out too fast to be gaskets) I figure cleaning carbs will help me with gaskets and get the gunk out of fuel system which may stop smoke, and if gasket problem oil too. I sure hope the engine is ok. But if not, I'll ship it to be rebuild by motormeister.com for 2600. People say old Porsche 911s aren't reliable but this is one of the last carburator Porsches. And though it's slower, its VERY reliable. Unlike the quicker mechanical fuel injection, carbs require less tuning (which is something i better watch out for when taking appart the carbs) So the carbs are very reliable and you can drive the car at 90mph the whole day with no problems or at a low 2000rpm city driving if just going downtown for the day an not have problems. Ahhhh I'm sorry this is your thread. So anyways, like I was saying you won't be able to stop your car if someone runs a stop sign, and im 100 percent that it will happen to you, or someone else will hit you someway without being your fault. It's a heartbreak the first couple times especialy in a nice car. But the 944 is a safe car. There are sites where people drove it into a canyon, hit trees, and totaled their 944, but the person came out with a scratch.... I'm looking at the 944 too because I'm scared some idiot will run a stop sign and damage my 1969 beast. A 944 or a Jeep wrangler. I'm still looking... Good luck.

A friend I know totaled his 928 GTS on the freeway. When the car stood still it was under the crash barrier. But he and his girlfriend got out with some small bruises.:bandit:
