Engine Questions...89 Wagon
Hello all...I'm somewhat new to these forums and just had a quick question. I am planning on replacing my current motor with a JDM motor of the same type (d15b). I'm currently in the process of buying my first home, but once I get moved in I would like to get the engine swapped out b/c the engine in there now not in the best of shape (piston rings/valve seals/high mileage). And the honda gets better mileage than my bu'. I was curious how long it has taken most of you all here to perform an engine swap. I figured it shouldn't take too long considering its the same engine going in that came out of it. Thanks ahead of time for your 2 cents!

yeah......a d15b isnt the same motor as whats in ur wagon....ur wagon is a single cam 1.5 without mpfi(i beleive*) a jdm d15b is a 1.5 single cam VTEC motor....about 25+more hp then what u got, and u have to re do the wiring harness for mpfi and vtec.....the time depends on how much help u have and how much u know about motor swaps... if u get the right parts maybe a few days.. |

Re: Engine Questions...89 Wagon
Ahh Thanks for clarifying. I wasn't aware of that. I guess I need to be a little more careful when I'm engine shopping! Thanks for the info!

Re: Engine Questions...89 Wagon
So is your wagon's motor a D15b2 or a D16A6? If its a D15 then your gonna have to rewire it to mpfi if you wanna swap an A6 or ZC. Oh and when considering swapping an engine, these cars are about as easy as it gets, what might get in your way is wiring, which even that isnt too hard if you read about it.

Re: Engine Questions...89 Wagon
yep all these motors brought up a mpfi yours is dpfi. it means your enigine is programmed for 2 injectors and the ones mentioned are all built for 4 injectrs. if it had d inthe begining of the engine code you could easily put your stock intake maniflod on it and drive like that but you wouldent get anymore power. i will write more later. anymore questions?

Re: Engine Questions...89 Wagon
ok its like this. if you want it to be simple and for gas milage reasons. one option is to go find the hf motor it came stock in these cars and can be swapped with the same eas as any other motor but you will have 60 hp and really good gas milage. but thats if you really want better than good gas milage. the other opton is to put any other d seeries motor into your car. hear are the fast ones. d16z6, d16y8, d16a1. you can find these motors mostly in civics and the last one is from a 88-89 intagra. you could easily put one of those motors in and get good gains in hp as well as great gas milage. as for the mpfi swap. you will need to do this for the car to run right. you need to run 4 wires to the ecu from injector, 4 wires from the injectors to a resistor box. 2 wires to your distributor. and then swap some wiresat the ecu around no biggy i did it my first try (about a month ago car runs now). let us knoiw do some research on the crx/civic engine swaps and figure out wich one is best for you.

Re: Engine Questions...89 Wagon
Hmm i dont recommend you swapping a D15B6 HF motor into your wagon. Its too weak and only really belongs in the lightweight HF's. With a wagon your gonna wanna either buy a cheap used D15B2 or D16A6. But if your really only looking for a cheap, reliable, gas-saving ride then stick with the D15 especially if you dont have mpfi already. Dont even waste your time doing the mpfi swap if you have dual point, get a D15B2. If you have a D16A6 in your wagon right now though, then thats a different story. Get back to us on what motor you've got.

Re: Engine Questions...89 Wagon
I've got one more hour till I get off work and back home.
I will check as soon as I get home...In the meantime I've managed to find a 70' Cadillac Fleetwood with a 472 c.i. and t-400 trans for sale here The car is not in the best shape but the engine and tranny caught my eye! Yea off-topic I know but what can I say....I'm bored as hell here at work!!!

Re: Engine Questions...89 Wagon
And.....it was covered in oil and that's why I could not see it. The motor that is in it now is a D15B2. So I guess I'm going to try and put the same motor back in unless anyone else has any good suggestions!

Re: Engine Questions...89 Wagon
Yeah look for a used d15B2. Is your tranny good? Im assuming all your intake components work well. Just find a B2 block and head or get a longblock if you want a new intake. You seriously shouldnt pay more than like 100 bucks for a used B2. Find one that someone wants to toss, or check out some junkyards..ignore the ones that charge up the ass. Good luck
