80's Contest Entry: 1987 Wrangle Monte Carlo
Well, I've been looking for a reason to work on my wrangler cars for some time now. And this is it. The Kit is the Revell Monogram re-release of the 87 Wrangler Car. here is my progress so far.
I cut out the grille opening to add a PE peice. I am currently working on the cage. I've rebuild the front halo bar so as to push the A-pillar bars out to meet the body more. I am in the process right now of building the A-pillar support bars. Let me know what you think! ![]()

I've gotten a little more work done. I managed to push the roll cage out to meet the body, around the window trim, and have the a-pillar support bars in place. I've also removed the trunk. Going to go FULL detail on t his one!

Re: Eighties Contest Entry: 1987 Wrangler Monte Carlo
havn't heard anything about problems. I posted it first on the randyayers board. basically a nascar forum. and everyone raved about the old aerocoupes saying they are the best stock car kits produced.

I've completed the bracing for the rear window. Hopefully I will be able to atleast get the body in base yellow today!

Re: Eighties Contest Entry: 1987 Wrangler Monte Carlo
time to bring this one back up around the top. got the body in paint. the color is rustoleum farm equipment yellow. It looks pretty good to me. Needs to be sanded and sprayed again. notice the hole for the fuel filler....as I type this, I forgot that I didn't drill the hole for the vent tube. that will need to be done. Let me know what you guys think.

Re: Eighties Contest Entry: 1987 Wrangler Monte Carlo
alright. seven months later. I decide to get back to work on this guy. I finally got the momentum up to fisnish hiding the door panels. I was having a real tough time finding reference for the contingency sponsors on this car. For the front, I used a shot from the RCR museum of what is supposed to be the pass in the grass car. behind the wheel well, I used the 87 cluster from wetworks. Then infront of and behind the rear wheel well, I used what reference I could find, and then just sort of filled in. These colors are almost a spot on match. Now all I need to do Is drill the vent tube hole....still...lol. Anyone have any idea what clear could be sprayed over this paint and decal combo? the yellow is rustoleum farm implement paint, the blue is krylon, and the decals are wetworks. lol. Hopefully I can get this thing done in time for the contest. Only time will tell!
in the first picture is the original cluster for in front of the front wheel wells. The next one is of the modified cluster to match the picture from the RCR museum. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I find the decalling one of the more fun aspects of NASCAR builds. I dont know why, I just enjoy it! If anyone has some good reference shots or info on paint colors for the engine please....SHARE. lol I'm having trouble finding it. James do you have any ideas?

Re: Eighties Contest Entry: 1987 Wrangler Monte Carlo
Normally the GM NASCARS are as follows : engine block and exhaust headers in steel, cylinder heads in gunmetal: and the intake manifold and the transmission in aluminium. And of course give things a light black or smoke wash to give depth. Hope this helps. Mal

Re: Eighties Contest Entry: 1987 Wrangler Monte Carlo
well some progress before I leave! In the trunk area here is what I did. The bar that comes down and around in the rear, I hacked up the kit peice, keeping the hoop in the back. The bars that come down and connect to the floor of the trunk I replaced with brass rod so that they would connect all of the way down, without the big block they glued into. The fuel cell was totally redone as I mentioned before. Sprayed in gloss black and the plate is aluminum misted with tamiya smoke to darken it a little. The oil tank was modified slightly. I removed the cap from the top and all of the molded in lines and added a new filler neck, angled toward the rear. All that is left is to make a cap for it. I wont be using aftermarket braided line. As much as I would love to, I just can't afford it. I am going to put that money into some other details. I will be using craft line as recommended on the BAD site. along with fittings I will make myself. Also Pictured is the reworked front bar for the "Banjo Matthews" Chassis.
