smog with a bad turbo!!!!

I have to smog my car to remew my tags, but my stock turbo is almost dead. It burns oil like crazy and has really bad shaft play. The turbo wont boost past 6 psi and I can get about 2 psi of max boost in first gear. My question is, is it possible to pass smog with a bad turbo or should I just buy a new turbo??

Re: smog with a bad turbo!!!!

It seems you are unable to recieve both e-mails and PMs for some reason, so I'm posting this here.

Please read:

And also put the year, make and model of your vehicle(s) in your sig, along with any modifications you have done to it.

Thanks.

Re: smog with a bad turbo!!!!

Regarding your post, I think you might fail emissions, since the burning oil coming out your tailpipes may contain more HCs and NOX than usual, though I don't know exactly what the burnt oil content separates as in terms of percentages. If you need a new turbo anyway, just get a replacement and then smog it.

Re: smog with a bad turbo!!!!

In most states you will fail for visible smoke. I know in Colorado they will run the test to make sure the #'s are good, but will fail for the smoke. Good luck
