engine stalls in reverse

my 69 beetle works in all forward gears only if I push the shifter down between gears, but when I shift into reverse the engine stalls. I checked the vacum and the fuses and they are all ok. Also does anyone have the wiring diagrams for this car?

Re: engine stalls in reverse

The reverse light is powered from the ignition coil. I suspect that it is either hooked up to the wrong terminal on the coil, or grounded somewhere, causing the stall when it's put in reverse.

Diagrams are also available at www.vintagebus.com.

Re: engine stalls in reverse

The problem was solved!

The problem was the reverse light wire was on the wrong (negative) terminal on the coil. So I hooked it to the positive side and it runs great! Also the diagrams were very helpful too.
Thanks
