99 CVPI (front end hum/roar noise)????
I have an "issued" 99 CVPI.
The agency decided it would be "cost effective" (another catch phrase for stupid imho) to send my car to the Bureau of Prisons to have it rebuilt. It had 100,000 miles on it when they sent it off.. They completely overhauled it: New engine, transmission, ball joints, bearings, brakes hoses etc.. THE PROBLEM: I have a droning noise that seems to come from the front end.. The tires are new, and have been balanced twice, the wheels are not warped, the rotors are new, the bearings are new etc.. The car tracks straight as an arrow, doesn't pull when braking and has no vibration to speak of, other than a "rough" feeling over 115 mph...( I don't know if this is related) If I am driving on a rough stretch of hwy, it is not noticeable. If I am driving on smooth, nice pavement, there is a drone/hum/roar type noise that seems to emanate from the front end. If I lean up over the middle of the dash while driving, it seems much louder up by the windshield.. The noise is at it's worst, between 65 and 100+ mph.. There is no vibration in the car (seat of the pants), just the noise. It is loud enough that I have to turn the radio up to drown it out, and cell phone calls are difficult at speed. I have driven many CVPI's and almost all were very quiet and composed on the hwy, but this one is the exception. ANY IDEAS? OPINION? SPECULATION? Seriously, any relevant ideas as to what this may be would be appreciated.. |

Re: 99 CVPI (front end hum/roar noise)????
I have an 00 and 02 CVPI, makes the same front end humming at high speed that you've described,
being that your front end is 'new' , maybe the noise is coming from the intake air box, I have heard this noise in other cars at idle in park.... |
