Is My Car Sick??

Alright so I'm new to the Miata game and had a question about my car, a 1991 MX-5 5 speed with 130K miles on it. When I first bought it last summer it drove pretty well, everything seemed normal.

Well recently the oil pressure has been really low, like almost to 0 when idle and it doesnt reach 60 pounds unless it's revved really high. In addition to the oil pressure the car has turned off on me twice when idle, turned right back on without a problem but now im really scared anytime the tach goes under 800 RPM. What could be causing these problems and what do I need to do to fix them. I'm not the most mechanical person but i can follow directions really well. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Is My Car Sick??

Assuming youve kept up with the oil changes, i wouldnt worry about the pessure as long as you have 10 lbs per 100 rpm, and dont rev it over 2500 rpm without a load...If you haven't kept up with the oil changes well theres no accounting for supidity.

There are 2 elements that will cause your issue, fuel delivey and ignition delivery. I suspect that its an O2 sensor (usually accompanied by a check engine light) but it could be ignition cables cap or plugs. If you have a garage that you can put it in, turn off the lights open the hood and look for crossfireing plug wires. otherwise take it to the dealer and suck it up.

Re: Is My Car Sick??

When the car is at idle do you hear a clattering sound
up in the top part of the engine or you may say clicking,
or tapping .
If this is not hheard then very possible you have a bad
oil sending unit or the gage is going bad
It is very possible that the oil pump is going out but I would check the send unit first
