Anti-terrorism funding - politically-motivated?

Blue voting New York, NY, loses 40% funding, and Red voting Charlotte, NC gains 40% more?

The department ranks the national capital _ hit by one hijacked airliner and saved from assault by a second _ in the bottom quarter for risk of terrorist attack. The District of Columbia would get less money than South Dakota.

Equally curious is that the department found that New York City had no "national monuments or icons" although the Statue of Liberty, Empire State building, United Nations and Rockefeller Center would seem to clearly qualify.
WTF? Even money meant to protect us is used for pork?

Though, I don't doubt that politics played a big part of it; NY is still getting the a huge pot of cash. 124 million is still a lot of pork to pass around.

Here's the laundry list of our tax dollars being dolled out.
http://www.dhs.gov/interweb/assetlib...local_fy06.pdf

1 is California at 231 million
2 is NY at 124 (Virtually all for the NYC)
3 is Florida at 100

What's sad is some bean farms are getting money for protection from Homeland Security while The Empire State Building and Statue of Liberty gets $0.00. Nothing. Zilch. Nada. Stinking plants are more important that people lives. Congress is screwed in the head.

No landmark gets any money. The city/state gets it. NY is getting 124 Million and they have autotomy to spend the money.

The money is mostly pork anyway. Tax dollars pissed away.

That's true in practice. In theory, the Fed Gov has designated certain places and criticial to national security and national landmarks. Each place designated gets X-dollars allocated to it. The Empire State building is NOT on the list for Homeland Security as having any significance or importance to the US despite the offices and # of lives that could be lost if 9/11 happened again.

However, you are right, when the states actually get the $$$, it isn't necessarily spent on what it should be.
