Afew things to go over before i start my car for the 1st time!!!

Well hopefully saturday my new engine will be in, is there any kind of check list i should go through before firing my baby up for the 1st time? Priming oil pump maybe? if so how?

I know to make sure the oil and coolant are filled
All sensors are connected

But anything else? Should i change the settings in dsmlink for the egr valve before or after it is started? or just does not matter.

Another question do i run the bigger oil filter or stay with the 2g filter?

Thanx alot Eric

Make sure you change your oil after letting it run for a little bit.
Do a visual inspection and make sure everything it tight and all shields/protectors are in place.

That's about all other things I can think of.

Re: Afew things to go over before i start my car for the 1st time!!!

To prime the pump I just pull the coil pack and injector wires and crank for 10 seconds at a time, about 3 times total. I've always had instant oil flow on startup doing just this.

Make sure your DSMlink settings are all correct before starting. Especially global and deadtime for your injectors. The last thing you want is tons of fuel washing the oil off the bore when you first run it.

As gthomson mentioned, chaning the oil at the right intervals is probably the most important thing you can do. I let it come up to full temp to check for leaks, let it cool down. And either change the oil then, or after I run it one more time, or after the first drive (couple miles). Depends on my mood, and how clean I feel the block and head were before assembly. I would change it again at about 50 miles, 100 miles, 500 miles, 1000 miles, 3000 miles, then regular intervals. Every time I do this (or post it) the numbers change slightly, but you get the idea Breaking in a new motor is an extension of the machining process. You need to flush that shit out. Use only OEM or Pure1 filters, either size works for me. Now is also a good time to start safety wiring your filter on to protect that new investment

Search for my previous posts on breaking in motors. The cliff notes are frequent oil changes and getting into boost as soon as possible. Set it low, and get on it. The boost pressure will help to seat the rings before the crosshatch is worn off. How important this is depends on what the machine shop finished honed the block to. Work the RPMs up graudally, but get into boost for short periods of time.

make sure all your piping is connected, nothing like a boost leak when you start your car

Lol, try an intercooler pipe blowing off when you're about 3/4 of the way up a huge hill. The car couldn't make it up the hill lol, I had to try and ease it going down.

I think purolator makes them. They make a couple styles, there is only one you want (blue). I can only find them at advance auto, and they're not cheap.
