'67 Dodge Charger 426 Hemi

My brother is in the middle of completing this one and this time I thought I would do some WIP photos for him.

He has gone for some really deep dish wheels (especially on the rear!) He said he's not sure what colour to paint the wheels and may keep them in a gun metal colour. I think silver outers with a gun metal inner would look good!

The chassis needed a bit of modification to get them to fit properly!

I love the deep dish......Gunmetal looks good, but just about any color would look nice.

It was from an Auto parts store here in the UK called Halfords, it was a standard acrylic automotive paint. It was a fairly light maroon metallic colour (I didn't realise but some of the old muscle cars had a metallic type of vinyl!). He applied the paint in mist coats only and left it alone to get a vinyl effect for the interior.

The wheels haven't been painted yet and he is yet to decide on a colour. I think he should go for a bright silver at least for the outer part of the rims to make them stand out!

I have done this kit and lowered it to give it a more agressive stance added the american racing torque thrust rims wit metallic flake purple paint for the body and a tan interior. Keep the the rims the gunmetal black cept highlight the rims a little with the silver to match the body color.

Thumbs up Re: '67 Dodge Charger 426 Hemi

Personally i feel the paint and tire combination makes the car look a little too much like the japanese sports cars of the 70's and does not portrtay the tur american muscle feel. But maybe this isn't what you were looking for. However it is kinda cool. Good work on it.

I like it because it's not the "norm" of what people expected to see but it still carries an attraction for me personally. The concepts of "originality" are refreshing and I feel that can go a long way towards presenting a model in a genre where everyone does the "same thing" (like the car in my signature); continue with this build as you see fit because it looks very promising so far!

That Charger looks sinister just the way it is, but build it for yourself.

Re: '67 Dodge Charger 426 Hemi

He said thanks for the comments, and although he likes to also complete models with a more traditional muscle car look he thought he would do something different for this one.

The '67 Charger's standard wheels are very narrow and the wider wheels fill the arches nicely. The type of wheels were chosen to reflect the 'Minilite' style wheels that the Trans Am racers of the early seventies used.

He still has all of the detail stuff like BMF and painting the grille etc to do which will also add to the overall appearance.

I need get him to pull his finger out and make some more progress!

Re: '67 Dodge Charger 426 Hemi

A bit of a disaster has occured with the paint. Over time he noticed that in certain lights hairline cracks are visible in the paint. Not sure what caused it, has anybody had any similar problems? It's being stripped in brake fluid now ready for repainting.

Here are a couple of photos which hopefully show the marks.

Re: '67 Dodge Charger 426 Hemi

I like the look you are going for here. I would not two tone the wheels....keep them one color.
I kind off like the dark look on them but would like to see them in a lighter shade IMO.
The cracking of the paint may have been caused from too many thick coats of paint. Over time as they have dried they have all "pulled" and started to crack
