all Eclipse experts here...

I have been looking around for a new car lately (since mine is dying) and was wondering if a 2nd generation eclipse would be a good choice for a 17 year old? I know many of you will say a nonturbo would be but I am fixed on getting at least a GST, but preferably a GSX. What problems, if any, would I encounter and do they get good gas mileage? I have heard they get around 30mpg but I think that the turbo would get a little less than that. Thanks for the help!

Re: all Eclipse experts here...

Only thing you might have a problem with when dealing with any turboed eclipse from the years of 92.5 - 99 is crankwalk. You will have to search for that one because it has been explained to many times. Otherwise just check for normal things you would when purchasing any car.

Re: all Eclipse experts here...

They are sweet cars. My brother got around 30mpg on his gst, if you're only worried bout gas mileage get a honduh . I would recommend this car to anyone interested in a fun car to drive, they are relatively easy to work on and aftermarket parts are cheaply and readily avalible.

Any problem you can imagine will most likely come around sooner or later with the car.

Crankwalk is so damn overrated. It happens to probably 1/50th of all the people who are worried about getting it.

Re: all Eclipse experts here...

But how many 6 bolts get it?

Can you work on a car? The car will break on occasion and if you are cheap like the rest of us, you will want to work on it yourself. Turbo cars are pretty crazy for new drivers, but shit, I am only a year older than you. I doubt you'll get 30 mpg mixed. 28-31 highway is probably not out of range if you drive good, but you could get as low as like 12 mpg if you hammer on it city driving. I bet you could get like 22-25 mixed if you drive decent and dont race much.

The question is... do you feel lucky punk... well do ya?

Haha yeah I know but, it is worth mentioning to someone purchasing the car. They should at least know what it is and know signs for it. I am still debating on wether or not I should take the chance and built my 7 bolt.

Re: all Eclipse experts here...

Only problem i ever had as far as the engine was concerned was the thermostat, generator and clutch needing replaced. It's definately a fun car to drive and IF you keep your foot off of that right pedal you can get some decent gas mileage. You'll run into problems with any car you buy, if eclipses appeal to you then get yourself a 2G Turbo. Also searches will save you the hassle of having to make a thread on the subject for the 1,000,000th time. It's all good though, just remember next time.

Re: all Eclipse experts here...

Hahah, alright sorry about that, I have just had a recent liking to these cars so I thought I would ask the veterans. I have found some gsts on criagslist.com for about 3-6 thousand dollar range, I am not sure which car I will be buying (either an Eclipse, Stealth, or 300zx). But if I find a good deal then I won't be passing it up.
