Electrical help

I drained my battery by leaving my lights on in my 94 civic DX . I switched batteries from my other civic while I charged the dead one.

Somehow during all this, something happened where the 2 fuses in my radio circuit blew. I replaced the fuses, but there is still a short or a surge. If the battery situation caused this, is this a common problem? Any short cuts to solving this problem?

Re: Electrical help

Electrical help is usually tough to diagnose via the web. I do not know any short cuts. Only thing I can say is trace wires.

Re: Electrical help

It was probably just a coincidence this problem happened when the battery was changed. Whatever, i'll figure it out, thanks

Re: Electrical help

May have been something either shorted or grounded the two fuses when you pulled/put in the other battery. Did you have your system hooked up to the battery in any way? If so make sure it didn't ground out during the switch. Other than that I think you have to just do a wiring check. As for short cuts... I've never really been a fan of taking short cuts with electrical... to many things that could possibly go wrong if you mess the short cut up.

Re: Electrical help

If you are only blowing fuses on the radio circuit then the problem lies only in that circuit and changing the battery wouldn't cause that problem. What may have happend would be that one of your radio wires on the positive side is touching ground somewhere. Do you have an aftermarket radio?

Edit: Oh and diagnosing via the web isn't any harder than over the phone, the difference is it takes a little more time. (You really got to know what's going on.)

Re: Electrical help

fiberglasscivic,
You enjoy tagging me on my comments don't you? Besides tracing wires (we both mentioned that), enlighten me, what else can be done if it were via the web or phone support? I say it is tough because you mention to him to check something. 6 hours later he looks and finds nothing - posts. 12 hours later a response comes in to check another area. 24 hours pass, he looks and finds nothing, etc. That is what is meant by harder. You enjoy picking on minute details within my posts. That's fine, I can deal with it.

Re: Electrical help

No I really don't have a knack for picking up the minute crap. I just try to help to the smallest possiblities of a problem or as accurately as I can to try and solve the problem in one shot so as to avoid further questions. The more information I can provide someone the faster they can fix their problem and get back to the norm (or whatever). That's it. Sorry if it seems like I'm just nit picky.

Re: Electrical help

Sorry for stealing the thread, but hey fiberglasscivic, how's going with your overheating problem? Did the water pump do the trick?
