2g brakes

So I got my 2g brakes today. All I need is one emoticon:

They are fucking huge! You 1g guys know what I am talking about. I am pumped to put them on my Talon. All rotors (kinda shoddy shape, but ok temporaries), calipers, brackets, and ss brake lines for $40! All have ss brake lines but the front drivers side caliper. What the hell do I do now?Can I get one ss brake line anywhere? Will it be ok not to have it? Will the back 2g rotors/calipers work with my 1g ebrake stuff? Thanks guys.

Re: 2g brakes

I was reading your post and was wondering if you can post a pic of your calipers and brackets? I have dual piston calipers off a diamonte which are the same one's I read. I just want to see if I have all the hardware I need with them. I'm hoping I just need rotors and pads and thats it! Can I use the stock 1g single piston caliper brake lines? Or do I need to ordered 93+ AWD lines? Sorry I dont have answers to your ?'s. I kind of suck with breaks.

Re: 2g brakes

lines are lines doesnt matter. As far as the ebrake stuff thor, I know 2g awd's have a drum in hat e brake and I dont know how the 1gs are so if they are the same you should be able to hook it right up and adjust it and go, if not there might be a little bit of work involved

Re: 2g brakes

Ok. The back ones dont look all that much bigger, I may just keep the stockers back there if its going to take a lot to do it. Do you think having 3 SS lines and one stock one will be a big deal?

Re: 2g brakes

the car might pull a little away from the side with the stock line under heavy breaking but thats it

Re: 2g brakes

I guess I dont know what you are looking for. I think all you need is the rotors, pads, brackets, and calipers... I think everything else you can use stock stuff.

well vfaq says this

"Can I use aftermarket pads, or do I need to buy them from the dealer to get the shimming hardware?

Most aftermarket pads and calipers do not come with shimming hardware, so you will need to search around to find it (Pep Boys, NAPA, et al). If you can't find the shims anywhere, you will have to buy factory pads to obtain them. Yes, those shimming clips are important for the life of your brakes (and you too!). Without them, you may have excessive clearance and the pads may rattle in the caliper, or become misaligned, possibly reducing brake effectiveness and unevenly wearing the rotor."

How many shims should I have and what is the hardware exactly? Thats why i wanted to see pics, make sure I know what the shims are(and how many) and to make sure I have the same parts you have.

Re: 2g brakes

most actually all breaks that I've gotten from parts stores came with sims but that is only if they are needed.

Re: 2g brakes

Are they the little metal "clip" looking pieces? What do you call the other pieces that look like "metal brake pads"(shims..hardware)? I think I have 4 metal "clip" pieces per(8 total) caliper and one "metal looking brake pad peice" per caliper(2 total). I got them from e bay, their off a diamonte.

Re: 2g brakes

Sorry bro, I'm going to need a little while. I will be able to work on my car (probably doing brakes/porting) on Monday, but I wont get new rotors and pads for atleast a week or so.

Re: 2g brakes

Did you guys know the very early 95 gsx's have vented rear brakes? The production date on my car is 10/94, i had a hell of a time finding the right rotors for it.
