Exclamation Asking about a turbo now for the future!!

I have a question that i could not find answers in searching the forum. When my car is done and it runs hard with no problems i want to step up a turbo. I have the evo3 big 16g right now. What should i step up to next?

Just a reminder i have 880 inj, DSMLINK, ect. and all the other shit you need to go bigger

I am also curious about the T3T4 turbo. Why is it so cheap of turbo in price if its so much better than the evo3 big16g? Hell i could buy 2 t3t4s for the prive of a evo3.

Re: Asking about a turbo now for the future!!

I would think a 20G would be a nice upgrade, maybe.... I don't know, you haven't even ran your rebuilt car yet, I say wait and see after the brake in, and then pump up the boost with a good tune. You might like what you get.

Re: Asking about a turbo now for the future!!

t3/t04 doesnt mean its alot bigger and I would guess its cheaper because there is more of a supply and less demand for them as there are MHI evo III's. What are your goals for the car? weekend warrior daily driver or track pounder?

To me a 20g is worthless, its a good turbo dont get me wrong, but for the price of a 20g you could get a 50 trim or bigger and still have money left over for a manifold

Re: Asking about a turbo now for the future!!

Personally, for my power goals I plan on going with a full 50 trim turbo. I have talked to people with the t3/t4 60 trim and they tell me that it is a good turbo but w/o cams and/or a stroker they really are not worth it. They take a long time to spool without a pretty heavily modified engine. That is why I am going with a 50 trim. The 50 trim still supports about 350-500 horsepower at the wheels. Here is a link incase you are interested. http://www.dsmparts.com/customer/pro...cat=166&page=1

Re: Asking about a turbo now for the future!!

LMAO

A 50 trim and a 20g are really the same size. 20g is 48 lbs/min, 50 trim is 50 lbs/min. Very similar power potential. The next typical round of turbos is in the 60-65 lb/min range. There is very little in between for conventional bushing (read: affordable) turbos. The BB GT30Rs fall into the 52 (3071) and 55 lb (3076) range. In SBR terms, these are the GT10 through 12 series for bolt on versions. IMO, I think a 55 lb 3076/GT12 is the way to go for a 2 liter. A 2 liter at 30 psi, 8k rpm, and 100% VE can only move a calculated 55 lbs/min, so this is the best compromise between lag and max flow potential given the range of boost/rpm the vast majority of DSMers run. I plan to upgarde the EVO8 turbo to a 3076 myself for this reason. For a stroker, start with a GT35R at the smallest, no contest, IMO.

So it all comes down to money. In the 800-1000 range, you have the 20g/50 trim offerings. Both great turbos in the right combination, and a decent upgrade over a 16g. For a couple hundred more you have the GT BB series. Probably a better bang to buck ratio for the extra cash. Hard to go wrong with any of these turbos though.

That would just scare the shit out of me on my 7bolt. I personaly like the SMC 50 trims too. T3/t4 will require a new manny. Just keep that in mind.

Re: Asking about a turbo now for the future!!

www.dsmparts.com offers a 50 trim so you can keep your stock manifold. I think the turbo is only $750 before any options are added to it.

It only has about 400 miles on it right now. Its still brand new if you ask me. But if i happen to do it within the next few months i will let you know. My engine should be in within 2 weeks i hope, just got to get the engine bay all pretty lol. I will run a different turbo for break in and then put the evo3 on and see how alive it is now since all my mods i did over the winter like some others are saying on here i might be suprized on how good it will run now compared to last summer.

Re: Asking about a turbo now for the future!!

I would run bigger at lower boost, so when you rebuild your motor for a stoker you don't have to upgrade

Re: Asking about a turbo now for the future!!

i have a brand new gt3076 R BB turbo for sale. All this turbo talk, someone might want it. Also, a bb 50 trim is pointless. Not worth getting a bb for that small of a turbo. PM me if interested in the turbo.
