original engine?

If i'm not trying to get a numbers matching all original car are there any other downsides to getting a car that doesn't have its original engine?

Not as long as the engine in there "fits" and is suited to your application. What kind of car are we talking about?

I didn't end up buying it because the add said 1967 Olds 442. I went and checked it out and did a little research and found out it was a 442 clone from a cutlass supreme holiday coupe, and it didn't even have the original engine from that. It also had some body work done on the front end.(done by pulling it out and bondoing over)
