weird problem with delSol 93 Si / starting it
Hi all:
My car is acting up again. And it is one of those intermitent problems. Could any provide some insight? Details: it is a Civic del Sol '93 SI, D16Z6 engine. Here is what happens: - it starts then, while idling, it stops then it doesn't want to start again; when this happens there is no spark; i checked the ECU codes (shorted the 2P terminal) and the CEL stays on (no blinking); - with the CEL on, does it mean it is the ECU at fault? - if i let it sit for a couple of days, it works (starts/I can even drive it); but, then, the next day it's up to the same thing (stalls and doesn't start); - once, it started after i reset the ECU, but sunday it didn't; Things I checked (w/ a voltmeter): - batery: 12.56 V alone; 14.4 V when running (alternator running); while cranking it goes down to cca 9.7V (that's when the person cranking stopped; it was about 10-15sec); - coil: 1.1 ohms primary (a little high; should be 0.6-0.8 ohms but this might be the error in my meter too!), 18Kohms (or so) secondary; within params; - the coil was changed last year; - ignitor -- should be fine, I replaced it a couple of years ago; - checked the distributor cap and rotor; the rotor is a little rough, but otherwise they are fine; IMHO any issues here should manifest every time not once in a while; - spark wires: resistance within params (I forgot the actual vals); there is no spark w/ the wire disconnected from the spark plug, but when there is I can see the spark! - cleaned the throtle (w/ carb cleaner) and it worked afterwards, but next day it started/stalled/didn't start again. Thank you, Neko |

Re: weird problem with delSol 93 Si / starting it
when the CEL comes on, there is a code that it is throwing... here's a link for how to check that code: http://technet.ff-squad.com/how-to/celcheck/
Once you do the process in that link, your CEL will start blinking, seemingly randomly. That's it telling you the code. Be sure you're in a dark area, as the single clicks can sometimes be faint. After you get the code, as instructed on that link, do a google search for the code you're throwing (IE "Honda CEL code 43" in the search bar) and see what comes up. |
