Head Gasket Help!!!!!

I have a 97 neon with a DOHC since i'm changing the head gasket myself
i would like to know if i have to remove the camshafts from the head in order to remove the head or is it a matter of just removing the bolts and the head and camshafts coming out as a unit?

I'm pretty sure the cams can stay in the head, unless you have to remove them to get to the head bolts.. If this is the case, you may want to invest in a good service manual..

Re: Head Gasket Help!!!!!

You have to pull both camshafts to get the headbolts out.Make sure to break the bolts loose that hold the caps holding the cams on with a good six point socket by hand first to prevent rounding them off.I have done 2 or 3 of these and the cams had to off.Make sure to put the cams and the caps in the right spot when putting back together. There is one special tool you need,a special puller to get the crank pulley off.It is a 3 jaw puller and a harmonic balancer will not pull the crank pulley off since there are no threads for bolts

Best bet is to rent the puller at autozone. I just bought one for $90!
