Next thing for HP...

Okay so i have a CAI, cat back exhaust, 4-2-1 header, 1.8 cam and the elantra ecu on my 2k tibby, what's next besides nos or a turbo? Rember i live in Cali and cops out here have nothing better to do then to pull you over for not having a cat on your exhaust. I'm trying to go n/a and see what kind of numbers i can putup without spray. Both the turbo and NOS are in the distant future...any ideas?

port and polish your intake mani and head. it'll make it breath better. and i'm not sure if your year tib has an aftermarket intake mani or not but if so get one. and get lightened pulleys. agressive cams, cam gears, and get better ground wires for you tib plus all the other wires and stuff. a big bore throttle body, and that should be enough for you to get some ideas.

Re: Next thing for HP...

Go to www.kspec.com. Get a 58mm throttle body (you don't need anything bigger if you're staying NA) and the AirRam IM.

Honestly, you won't put down more than 180whp NA. It's just soooo much cheaper to turbo your car, and you get much better gains.

Re: Next thing for HP...

Yes and no.

There are certain parts that you can use on either a turbo or na setup. The Airram IM, for example, is great for both. A 58 mm TB, while a larger one would be better for FI applications, will still be fine. Lightened parts, like pulleys and flywheels, are another example of parts that benefit both setups.

However, there are plenty of NA parts that absolutely WILL NOT work with a turbo setup. A CAI, for example, will not work, at least not without some major modifications. Your headers will become useless. If you want to get the most out of a NA setup, you'll have to get more aggressive cams. However, the grind on a NA cam set makes them worthless on a FI setup. Also, you'll have to get some high compression pistons. Needless to say, high compression ratios + forced induction = very, very bad. And you'll also need a full standalone ECU to tune the cams, which means if you go FI, you'll have to change so much it's not even remotely funny.

Honestly, there's no point in trying to push an NA setup to it's limits, just to turn around and throw away all the time, parts, and labor you've spent to go FI. My advice would be to get the parts that'll work on both setups, and later decide whether or not you want to stay NA.
