Dynamat going in... Interior coming together...

Well, My dynamat is going in nicely and my center console is coming along.. As soon as I pick up my custom shift boot (Carmine red to match my vents and stuff) I will be ready to drop in my new carpet.

I am contemplating re-upholstering the seats instead of buying seats... What do you all think of doing this instead of buying them? Worth it?

I would post pictures, but I have no digital camera, so you all have to wait until I have a full line of pictures from the rebuilding process...

I just finished painting my interior, and I'm probably going to re-upholster my seats. I love the Si seats, and the only aftermarket seats I want are the Sparco Torino's. At $600 a pop, I can't justify it, so I'll spend $400 total for redoing the existing Si seats.

Did you dynamat the entire car, and what type of dynamat are you using? How long did it take you to tear apart the interior? Did you take the dash out and dynamat that area too?

I did not dynamat behind the dash for lack of any flat spots big enough to dynamat.
It took me about 3-4 hours to get all the interior out, but that includes hunting for the right sockets every now and then or looking up a part in the helms manual.

I am using Dynamat extreme for everything. You can get the 36ft bulk pack from ebay for 130 shipped from cmttrading (www.cmttrading.com)

Yeah before the Si fronts, bottom section of the rear, and back of SiR seats with headrests are even in the car Im going to have them re-upholstered in a that color of blue on the outside and for the head rests, and a darker blue on the center.. I think its gonna look sweet.. How much do you think the suede will run me? My dad is a lawyer for a guy who reupholsters everything so I can get a good deal on the labor.

I bought enough dynamat extereme to do my car once over, plus the foam for the floor/roof. Its been sitting in my garage for 4 months now...

I'm thinking of buying a decibel reader and doing some before/after tests, and run some tests in other cars (accord, lexus) for comparison. I hope the added weight (about 40 pounds) is justified - well my car is light to start with and I hate the road noise.

Smells like asphalt?

ci5ic: Just wanted to let you know it was about 85F today and I left my windows rolled up and car in direct sunlight with nothing covering the dynamat, and when I hopped in it smelled no different then before the dynamat was in. Perhaps whoever told you it smells like asphalt was using a cheap imitation.

Besides, I kinda like the smell of asphalt. :bandit:
