MY CAR - AWD, RWD...DSM link

K so I decided not to sell my car...go figure.

FWD is so gay, I cant add anymore power cause traction sucks as it is. so the mouse started spinning in my head.

LSD is an option but kinda boring, i was thinking...AWD conversion would be a fun project this winter...or maybe RWD?

anyone here ever done an awd conversion...selling the car and buying a gsx is not really an option...if i sell the car I will probably stray from dsms...

what do u think?

I also decided to ditch the afc and run dsm link.
does anyone have an extra 1g front cover I could buy from them (the 2g modified cover is leakin alittle oil, part of the reason i want to go with dsm link)

Re: MY CAR - AWD, RWD...DSM link

This may be a stupid question but what does an oil leak have to do with link?

Re: MY CAR - AWD, RWD...DSM link

because when you do a 2g to 1g motor swap, you need to use either a 2g front cover (modified, so it has the posibility to leak oil) or use the 1g front cover with dsm link...

Re: MY CAR - AWD, RWD...DSM link

Yup. That was once known as the RRE method, I Don't know many poeple at all that run it that way, but it's a pretty slick way to get around the RM CELs. Soon after the MAgnus method became known, and much more popular, but needs DSMlink to really get rid of the RM problem the right way.

A couple local guys have done the AWD conversion, but I don't know enough about it to comment. In a spyder it's much easier. Not sure how poeple do it in regular 2Gs, but it's been done. More effort than I would be willing to put into one of these POSs

Re: MY CAR - AWD, RWD...DSM link

I say go RWD. Make it a drifter. After this Talon is done, my next project will be a drift 1g . Check out the writeup someone from AF did on AWD conversions, I think its the only one. Mounting up the rear end would be the same I would think, but you'd have to get creative to get the engine turned 90 degrees.

Re: MY CAR - AWD, RWD...DSM link

yeah a dsm going sideways would be kinda crazy . I know nothing about trannys, isnt there a way to mess with the awd tranny to so it only turns the rear wheels?....then again if I go through all the trouble mounting an AWD tranny why not keep it AWD. I dunno definetly a winter project.

Re: MY CAR - AWD, RWD...DSM link

people pull the front axels and it makes it rwd but its not a good idea and is hard on the drive line

Re: MY CAR - AWD, RWD...DSM link

who has experience with an LSD, is it worth it? How much does it actually help? (Just read the AWD conversion thread, think it might be easier to buy a gsx and sway my moter into it haha)

o wait...no money, scratch that idea

Re: MY CAR - AWD, RWD...DSM link

Yes, LSD's help a lot. If they didnt, why would people run them?

If you make it RWD, dont do the ghetto AWD - front axles shit. You'd have to turn the engine 90 degrees and get a Mighty Max tranny. It would be pimp as hell though.

Re: MY CAR - AWD, RWD...DSM link

has anyone done a RWD here? (with the mighty max and 90 degree motor turn?)

"Why would people run an LSD if it didnt work?"....why do guys with civics buy simulation BOVs?

Thanks for the help so far, I am really interested in doing this. My uncle has alot of knowledge with cars, and after I gained his respect for my car after taking him for a ride he wants to work on it with me.

I got the motor figured out but rotating the motor and transmission shit is WAY over my head.

Re: MY CAR - AWD, RWD...DSM link

Buschur sells a lot of the parts need for RWD conversions. Like motor mount plates, belhousing adapters (for 2 speed autos though), etc. I think they have a seperate section for RWD on thier site now that I think about it.

Re: MY CAR - AWD, RWD...DSM link

There was one kid on here a few months back that had a RWD 1g for sale. Also, Rau is running RWD on his track car. I'm into this too, this could be really sweet. You're in MN too right?

EDIT: Here is that like to Buschur's RWD conversion page.
