Starting to build my collection and have questions
I am beginning to start my build of Tamiya 1/12’s. I have the entire F1 set plus the 910, 934, 935 and Lola T-70. I also have 3 Protars’ T3, 179 (80) and the MP4/2.
My goal is a super build these. Hopefully as I progress through each, the level of what I can to do increases. I am starting with the Wolf. It is a DFV car that does not require surgery and a straight forward kit. Only drawback is possibly the gold decals. I am using newer Tamiya decals, though these too may be older. My goals on this are: 1. To replace the water lines with more appropriate material. I have Modelers connectors and braided lines; 2. Add the Brake and Clutch Hydraulic lines; 3. Add Throttle Cable; 4. Replace Fuel Lines with better material that has been stained; 5. Add wiring for instruments and fire extinguisher lines. Probably will go with the colored wire from Little Cars in the UK 6. Add seat belts. Have nice set 7. Replace plastic screen over inlets with real screen mesh. Questions for the group on this build: 1. I have not found really good photos of the brake and clutch lines as they exit the master cylinders. I also do not know the layout of the brake lines to the rear inboard Lockheed calipers. I need to know how to route these. (From what I have found, metal brake lines go out of the cylinders, assume in a ‘T’ junction and connect to black hose (per extant cars) that goes through openings in the front of the tub, through the sides and attach to brakelines coming out of Girling front calipers.) Also need details on the route of the clutch line. 2. Need details as to how the throttle cable connects to the pedal. 3. I see where the wiring starts in the cockpit, where do the various wires go in the back? 4. The build reviews on other sites do not mention the diameter of materials used. I need to find out the actual diameters to figure out what size scale materials to use. One item I will do later on is a vice-verse build on the McLaren M23’s. I will take the earlier car and backdated to 1973 Yardley Hulme car with short wheelbase with the MTB decals and the Tamiya Yardley set. This will require shorter radius rods and revised pair of suspension braces due to the deletion of the engine gearbox spacer. (I just picked up the Motorsports in Detail feature the Mauger M23 in New Zealand which is in 1973 configuration.) I assume that the ‘banana’ wing support is correct for 73. The later car will be done as a Texaco car with the high airbox, revised inlets and mirrors. I am really impressed with what I see here. I appreciate your help! |

Re: Starting to build my collection and have questions
Welcome aboard Emilio,
As far as the Wolf is concerned, have a look at Jeep's website here: http://WolfWR1.free.fr/html/WTEXTE.html He's a very helpful chap and I'm sure he has some close up pictures of the car in the Canadian museum, even if they're not on the website. |
