next mod

I have some money saved up cough*$300*. Now I'm thinking I should save and get link espically since my graduation party is on saturday and since I already have an eprom. Any other suggestions? Oh and btw, I dont really have a laptop that I can use to tune with right away so what are the base settings of the socketed ecu? Is it something I can just plug in and run with or is there tuning that needs to be done first. Oh and for the record I still cant really tune worth a shit so expect me on here alot asking question.

Re: next mod

I would save up and buy DSMlink, it doesn't require shit from a lap top to run it. Kevin payed $50 for his, get on ebay or some other discount site and pick up and old laptop that can run Windows 2000 and call it a day.

Re: next mod

well I guess I should have explained more. I do have a computer, a laptop that is. The screen is broke and it needs a hard drive but what I;m goin gto do is use the laptop like a pc and run an external monitor(7" where the radio goes) and run link with that. It will just be a little while before I can afford the screen.

Re: next mod

Exactly what GSX said, you don't need a badass laptop to run DSMlink. Just as long as it powers up and runs windows that's about all it has to do. And pr, don't you build your own computers? You should be set.

Indeed I do. Mine is going to be pretty badass though because, well, then I can be like look at my badass computer in my car haha. Actually I'm going to put wireless g on it so I can have the net while in my driveway in my car and also a dvd player and Itunes. I figured I need to go big or go home right? So just for final clairfication, I dont need a laptop to get started, I can just plug it in and as long as the injectors and such are stock it will work fine untill I get the computer up and running?

Re: next mod

I recomend Dsmlink, and I dont recomend Dsmlink. When I got the link I didn't have a laptop, so I went online and got an XP from dell.. Then I realised my LTFT were fucked and my pump was being over run, getting lot of knock. So I bought a rewiere kit, 255hp.. After the rewire was done I was still getting knock. So I bought water injection and Aeromotive regulator with install kit. Now im affrade I won't be able to get my A/F right on with water/alchol so I'm buying a wideband... So, thats why I don't recomend it. It't the best mod I've ever done, but also the worst mod. Your never satisfied...

Re: next mod

well the main reason I want it is for the setup that I'll be running next year. What I have right now is going to be retired to a DD status and just has to last untill next summer when I'll probably be parting out my motor and turbo and such to make room for the new stuff. Plus it will give me time to play around with it and get a better understanding on how it works before I really need to use it I guess you could say.

technically dsmlink just showed you problems your car already had. But I feel your frustration, been there done that.
