2000 Nissan Altima

I have a 2000 altima with close to 95,000 miles. Yesterday I began hearing a clicking sound as I turned the wheels, could this be the axle? It's a little hard to say, but it sounds and feels as if it is coming from the left side. On second thought do I just need an alignment? Though the steering wheel doesn't seem to be off.

Please help!

Re: 2000 Nissan Altima

Did you figure out your problem? It's three months later and no one appeared to post. If clicking only when you make a turn, it’s more than likely your outer cv joint. You can really tell if you find a vacant parking lot, roll down a window, and turn the car around and around in a circle. The click, click, click occurs with wheel rotation. If you turn out of the circle, this noise will usually subside. If not on that side of the car, roll down the opposite window and drive in a circle in the opposite direction. Looking under the car, you typically see a torn cv boot on the outer housing. Plus, a spray of grease on that side of the car that came from the torn boot.

If not this, think of other ways to describe the noise.

If you happen to change out an axle, that's a good time to get the car's alignment checked. If you do it yourself and make alignment marks as you dissemble the front spindle, chances are you might not need alignment afterwards.
