i have a 1994 cherokee 4x4 4.0 high output, manual transmission, with only 65,000 miles on it. i rolled it recently, and completely ruined the body, and need advice. i want to get the newest generation cherokee (97-01), but it is very rare to find one with a manual transmission (a must for me), especially with low miles. i was thinking about buying a newer generation one just for the body/frame, and swapping out the engine (and transmission if i can only find an automatic), especially since there are only 65,000 on mine and is also in perfect condition. is it worth doing this to save my perfectly good engine, or should i just get rid of it and hope to find a newer generation cherokee with low miles and a manual transmission? if i were to do the swap, about how much could it cost me for the labor only? thank you, i appreciate your help.

Re: engine swap
HEY..how about the Wrangler Unlimited (long wheelbase with the 4.0L engine) made until 2006 with the manual trans...end of produuction this year. It is just like the XJ except that it is a 2 door only (like my XJ).
Sorry..got distracted, out here in California, you can get a lot of Jeeps used and cheap..the swap you talk about is ok execpt for the electrical harness and stuff. U got a lota time?? or have money to spend with no time. |
