intermittent washer and wipers on 97 s-10

My wife has an S-10 with 4.3 in it and the wipers and washer work when they want to. Sometimes they go for months and both work fine and then other times, they will stop (usually in the middle of a downpour while cruising down the freeway at 70 mph) for no apparent reason.

Has anyone else had this issue, and if so, how did you fix it?? It doesn't appear to be related to the switch on the steering column, so I am assuming it is in the circuit somewhere.

Thanks...

Take your wiper motor out. Remove the motor cover to expose the circuit board. Look at the five soldering spots that are in line with the wire connection to the board. The soldering joints are probablly broke. Resolder and it should work. You may need to look at the solder point under a magnifying glass. It worked for me.

Thanks. I kind of figured the problem might be there, but didn't know if it was a problem with a chip or the board itself I will do that tomorrow as I am off work and see if it solves the issue.
