Jeep Camp 2006
Anyone ever been to one of these Jeep Camps? I read about Jeep Camp 2006 on-line and it sounded pretty sweet. DO you get to take your personal Jeeps on the trails?
Just wondering if it was worth the expense ($375 earlybird, $395 reg.) THis year it's in going to be in Elkhart Lake, WI. Aug. 10-12. Thanks!

Re: Jeep Camp 2006
Hi jeep99,
We have been to 3 Jeep Jamborees (which are probably the same) when we lived in Colorado and they were held in Leadville. They were great...somewhere between feeling like you are at a concert, road trip, driving trails with a buddy, state fair, etc...not a cheap event but a lot of fun. They will have different levels of trails depending on what you drive...ours was a little mellow for me but was a lot of fun for the wife and kids. Sonny Boy was only 7 or 8 at his first one and it hooked him on Jeeps forever. He now has his first Jeep at 15. Our daughter was only 3 and she still remembers it. If it is close...go! You will have fun!! And you can always find someone local that might take you on an unauthorized excursion as well. Sonny Boy's Dad...Mike |

Re: Jeep Camp 2006
Camp Jeep and Jeep Jamboree are two different things. Camp Jeep is an event that Jeep Corp. puts on a couple times per year to introduce their products to Jeep families. Jeep Jamboree is a seperate company, unrelated to Jeep, and is geared more towards off roading. There are 20+ Jeep Jamborees held per year through out the US.
Ive never been to a Camp Jeep but have been to several Jeep Jamborees. If its off roading you want, Jeep Jamboree is the one to go to. If its booths, products and kids/family games then Camp Jeep is it for you. Oh, to answer your question. I think you do get to do a trail ride in your own Jeep during Camp Jeep but its not the focus of the weekend and in itself, not worth the money. |

Re: Jeep Camp 2006
Thanks for the info guys. Yeah--maybe I'll look into the Jeep Jamboree thing. Only myself and the wife--so we're not so much interested in all the family stuff...yet...
Thanks again!

Re: Jeep Camp 2006
Well Ray,
You said you say you haven't been to Camp Jeep...so you probably do not whether it is worth the money or not. We went three times and felt it was worth the money. In my message I mentioned that you did do trail rides at Camp Jeep. They were tailored to your ability and also to the ability of your vehicle. I would agree with you that Camp Jeep is tailored to the family...I believe you could read that in my message about the kids and the state fair feel. I have never been to a Jeep Jamboree. But if it is just off roading...why would you pay $375 to just go on a trail ride...there has to be more to it than that. Just my thoughts Jeep99...but $375 for a trail ride? There are trails all over the US that don't charge...check into joining a local or area club might be a better bang for your buck. Last edited by McCann; 05-13-2006 at 11:39 PM. |

Re: Jeep Camp 2006
I didnt mean to say that Camp Jeep itself isnt worth it. What I meant is if he's going to Camp Jeep JUST FOR THE TRAILS, its not really worth it. I think we actually agree that $300-$400 is too much to pay just to four wheel.
I pay to go to Jeep Jamborees because we dont have kids and I enjoy the off roading, although, the meals and camaraderie are really the best reasons to go to a Jeep Jamboree. Honestly, if we had kids, theres probably no way we would pay the price. Say for a family of four. You're talking almost a grand. Thats crazy. Several years ago we went to our first JJ and its the reason we started Jeeping. I think now we go to JJs just to support them for what they do. Most of the last ones weve gone to, we ran the lower rated trails just to be with new Jeepers. Its actually more fun for us to interact with the new people while they have fun. The newer people are so excited to be there that everything is a blast for them. BTW: The legal trails in my neck of the woods are few and far between. Ive got to drive 2.5-3 hours to find decent trails that you can run with a stocker, unless I go to one of the two ORV parks' then it cost almost $50/day just to wheel. Thats the reason the wife and I have all but given up off roading. It kills me but Ive started stripping parts off the YJ in preparation to sell it. Its not worth the cost and effort to keep a vehicle just to play with on the weekends. Last edited by Ray H; 05-13-2006 at 09:25 PM. |
