Volkswagon GTI 337 poll

Don't hate me... But I can't stop thinking about the GTI 337. The car is a dream looks wise and performance wise. Imported straight from germany these GTIs are a special edition and only 1750 will be shipped to the US. I have had the opportunity to sit in both a 2002 civic si and the GTI 337 and I must say all around the GTI 337 just leaves the civic si in a shadow of its brillance.. I have in no way abandoned my honda roots, however I feel the here in the US we are getting the bad end of the deal. Before you get frustrated and chase me out of this forum read the specifications below. I will admit the JDM civic Type-R hatchback looks pretty damn cool. As cool as the GTI thats a tough one.
Performance:
GTI 337
180hp 1.8 liter Turbocharged 4 cylinder 20v engine combined with a 6 speed dual pinion manual transmission.
0-60 6.4 seconds
1/4 mile 14.8 seconds
Lowered Sports suspension
Stainless steel performance exhaust system (I think it is made by borla)
Civic si
160hp 2.0 liter i-VTEC 4 cylinder 16v engine combined with a 5speed auto or 5 speed manual transmission
0-60 ?
1/4 mile ?
Mildly stiffened suspension.
Exterior
GTI 337
18" BBS RC wheels
Front and rear chin lip spoilers
Side skirts
Civic Si
nothing special
15" alloy wheels (the last edition Si wheels looked better!)
Interior
Both have recaro seats
Price
MSRP
GTI $22,250
Civic $19,460

Just judging the specs personally I think the GTI is a much better bang for the buck!

I know this post would have never occured if honda would just send us over the top of the line hondas instead of having canadians make them for america!!!!! Or just ship all the JDM parts to canada and have them make our honda's out that.

Hell ya there are, as long as "mad hella" means cool. I love pretty much all VW's, except for the bus. A friend of mine has got a Turbo Diesel Beetle, Fast as Bajesus. I would love to have a Turbo Golf or Jetta or that GTI fella. Yeah, I think Honda's and VW's are equally bad ass, but I'm not selling my CRX any time soon. Hooray for Germans and Japs, boo Americans . Actually there is one American car I'd buy, the Ford Focus SVT, that thing is nice and hella fast, faster than my car, at least until my Turbo B16. Other than that tho, we got crap :frog:

PS Mini Cooper's are bad ass too!

18''s are way too big, it would look better and go faster with 16''.

Post Gotta hand it to VW....

They have huge balls for bringin over such a special edition car like this, you'll never see honda pull this off other than the RSX-R but we'll probaly never see the damn Civic type R. The 1.8T motor in those VW's is infreakingcredible if you've ever rode in a modded one. SOOO much power by just doin intake, full exhaust, then go buy a chip that cranks the boost on the turbo and voila, you have no traction for the first 2-3 gears. If i couldn't get a honda i'd either go toyota or VW...thankfully there are enough hondas to go around hehe

BTW, I heard pricing on the new Si's dropped due to poor sales down to 17-16k? Shit, NOW at least the car is a good deal for what your are getting (I know its just below the SVT and V-spec $$$), maybe more people will buy them now who knows, i'd like to see it happen though.

GET IT

since the care is so limited, if i were you i would get it. ive seen pics of the car and it looks amazing! the car is gonna be as rare as their driver's edition golf. the only drawback in my opinion is why the fuck do volkswagen golfs cost so much? (30+ grand canadian for the vr6)

Lol I can't afford the GTI but I just think it is awesome!!! Focus SVT??!!! Na the only ford I would get is the SVT lightning! So what it is a truck (tho I do not like most trucks) but it looks tight and is fast as hell... 13.4 1/4 stock....... My dad owns a VW passat wagon with the 1.8T he added a new BOV, intake system, chipped it and added a few other performance mod.. Now it makes no less that 205hp (from an origianl 150hp) and could kill my moms bmw 328i in a race..

Then how about the Golf R32?
3.2L V6, 241hp, 320nm 0-100kmh 6.4s 245kmh

I would never buy a Golf however, over here the Golf is like the no.1 selling car and that for the last 20 years or so, I'm just kinda sick of seeing them all the time (not the R32 )
but I do have to admit that the new fast ones are pretty nice.

Where are you gettting those stats for the 180 hp Golf? its been tested in the uk at 7.4 to 60 and would NEVER do a 1/4 in 14.8 more like 15.4.

Those are the factory specifications but when car and driver test drove it those were their figures... And no they didn't modify it first.
