shift knob problems

Well after 3 weeks of use, I decided to go back to the stock shift knob, because my car basically wouldnt start! I believe that the knob was causing the car to remain in neutral lock, meaning that even though the knob was in park, the safety was on, hence wouldnt let me start. The reason is because when you take off the entire stock shift knob, you can see that the stock AT shift rod has a round peg on top which has a slanted tip and is basically shaped to work with the stock knob. In order for the new knob to function properly this tip has to be removed and a basic round peg is placed on top, which is provided with the new knob. When I first installed it, I tried to remove the stock tip, but after some twisting and pulling..it wouldnt budge....it seemed to be glued on real good! I didnt want to break itor pull it off in case I wanted to put the stock one back on, so I put the new knob over it...needless to say that its not an exact fit and I believe that is the reason it has some give to it and was not perfectly in park sometimes.......to make an already long story short, I decided that I dont want to risk any more starting problems just for this knob....like I said in my earlier posts, the knob looks and feels good, but you have to be willing to forgo using your stock one again.....anyways if anyone bychance wants this knob, I'll sell it for 40 plus shipping, I paid 60 but have seen it for over 100 at many shops in SoCal...

anyways..took the car to the mechanic, and the shifter wasnt causing the problem..it was a bad starter after all. I guess the car was not in neutral lock.....in any case..Im not messin with the shift knob any more!
