b16a swap
Have any of you done the b16a engine and transmission swap yourselves, or did you have it done at a garage. I know I won't have a problem with the tranny swap, cause I've had a lot of experience with taking out and replacing trannies (previous car was an 88 escort pony that liked to die at every opportunity and turned me off of american made cars for life). Anyways I was just wondering how long the swap took and how difficult it is to do yourself, since I would like to avoid paying someone to do work I think I can do myself.

the hardest part is the wiring its better to have more than one person to help with the swap and also the alternator might rub when you shift hard |

Check out www.hasport.com get the swap list and start ordering/buying parts that you need. My brother and I did my swap in our garage, although he did most of the work. I'm sure one person can do the swap but getting another person to help would be ideal, especially when you have to line up the motor to mount em. need a person to hold it down while you insert the screw...plus its safer that way...

My dad will help me with the swap. When I asked if anyone had done it themselves I meant had they personally had a hand in the installation, rather than taking it to a garage and letting someone else do all the work. Anyways thanks for the help.

I asked that same ? a few days ago here is a link to that thread http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/t55807.html
Im planning on doing a swap by myself also. To tell u the truth my only fear is getting the old bolts/screws off without stripping/breaking them. But just as long as u take ur time and do it one step at a time it should be a piece off cake. Plus with the money u save on labor charges that will be ur Intake, headers, exhaust money right there. The shop i checked they want a little over a grand for labor charges plus they said more for parts if u need them. And they want the car for two weeks to a month depending on how busy they are at the time. That was just one shop i checked as there are probably cheaper ones, but either way im gonna do it myself. -good luck |
