tire pressure?

my friends being an ass. he says that my tire pressure should be arould 40 psi.I have a 99 with stock SE rims and bridgestone turnza Z revo tires 225/55/ zr16. What should i use for everyday. i use 34 front and 33 rear currently. And is psi effected by tires or b the car itself.

my tires say on them what the correct pressure is...I have a '95 gxe and on the tire it says 44psi

The pressure ratings on the sides of any tire is for the maximum load that tire can take. It is not the recomended pressure for your car. Do not go by what the tire says, go by whats recomended by the manufacturer of your car.

Our Maxima's recomended tire pressure is 33 front and 29 rear. You can run 34/30 to round things off or somewhere around there. The reason for the difference in pressures is because of the weight distribution of our FWD cars.

Running to much pressure ie 40lbs will cause your tires contact patch to be to small on the road. You might have a tighter feel, but you actually have less rubber on the road. Less rubber means less traction. Using to little air pressure can cause excessive heat to build up in the tire and cause a possible tire failure.

The tire pressures for your car are posted on a sticker under the center console arm rest. Show your friend what it says.

You should always check tire pressure first thing in the morning after your car sits overnight. You want cold readings, not hot.
