How do you clean the MAF (mass airflow sensor)

I just wanted to know if anyone knew the best chemical to clean carbon/dirt off the MAF (mass airflow sensor).

Thank you in advance for your help.

Re: How do you clean the MAF (mass airflow sensor)

there is a cleaner that is for this exact job. I saw some at napa the other day, I'm sure it is available at all auto parts stores. It was called MAF cleaner. It was ~$6.

Re: How do you clean the MAF (mass airflow sensor)

I hear a cheap easy wat to clean your maf is sit it in a bowl of vinegar. Not completely submerged, but enough to cover the sensor, then swab it with a um, swab.

Sounds weird but people do that and it works.

My maf has never been cleaned in 107,144m so I dunno.

Re: How do you clean the MAF (mass airflow sensor)

I may clean mine soon, but I doubt I'll take it out of the vehicle. Not sure yet. I looked at it again and it is covered with fuzz. I didn't realize this before when I looked. I bet it would be beneficial to clean it. It looks fragile to a degree, but it can probably handle a little abuse, maybe. I mean air rushes past it, so the wires can't be to fragile. Hopefully I am correct, but I have come to the conclusion that mine could use a quick spray down to remove the fuzz.

Re: How do you clean the MAF (mass airflow sensor)

I used non chlorinated brake cleaner on mine. It was a tip from a ford mechanic when the one on my bros escort was causing problems and needed cleaned. Brake cleaner doenst leave any residue unlike carb cleaner.
