head gaskets?
I used to drive a 94 Supreme 3.1L engine. I had an issue with my car overheating and coolant leaking. I would put coolant in and then 10 minutes later it would be gone. Before I went anywhere I would always have to add coolant. I took it to a mechanic and he was working with it for about 4 days. He changed the radiator and that didn't do anything. His conclusion was that the head gaskets were blown. After reading many of the posts here, it sounds like my head gaskets are not blown. There is no water in my oil, there's no smoke coming from my exhaust, the only thing is that the car overheats. Is it possible that my head gaskets really are not blown? If you need more details, let me know.

Re: head gaskets?
I'm wondering about this because I might end up using the engine from my 94 and putting it in the 95 Supreme that I'm currently driving.

Re: head gaskets?
The first thing is do you see coolant leaking from anywhere. If you are losing coolant that fast you have a leak somewhere especially if you don't have white smoke coming from the exhaust. I suspect the heater core is leaking. There is a drain that leads to the outside of the vehicle on the firewall. That is where the coolant is probably flowing. I really don't think this is a head gasket issue but if you don't fix the leak it will become an issue.

Re: head gaskets?
i don't drive the 94 anymore...it's been sitting in my driveway for about 8 months now...i'm now driving a 95 supreme and i had the transmission from the 94 put in the 95...when i was driving the 94 though there was no smoke, just the coolant was disappearing. the mechanic who told me about my head gaskets had taken 4 days to figure that out. i don't know if he was telling the truth :-( i might end up eventually putting the engine from 94 in the 95 that i'm currently driving. the 95 has 235000 miles and the service engine light comes on sometimes so if this engine dies i can take the engine from my 94.
sorry this might have confused you... |
