Transmission Problem 1997 C2500 No Overdrive

The problem I am having is with a 1997 C2500 with the 4L80e.

I have just had the inside of the tranny completly rebuilt with a new torque convertor. The exterior solenoids etc were not changed. The truck drives fine until it shifts into overdrive at which point it just seems to go into neutral.

Does this sound like a solenoid problem or I also saw a few posts about an "ignition switch" which souned like a similiar problem?

Also my check engine light burntout! At first it was on, then it went out and now will not light up even when the ignition is turned in on position. WTF?

Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Was this the reason you had the rebuild done in the first place? If not, then take it back and have them fix it. If so, could be a solenoid not making the converter lock up.

Re: Transmission Problem 1997 C2500 No Overdrive

The transmission was giving me problems all around. It had 210k miles on it.

It is at a shop right now and they are trying to diagnose it.

The tranny shop that rebuilt it is owned by a friend, he rebuilt it very cheap and told me upfront that there may be other external problems since all of the exterior components were the original.

I called him but he is busy as hell and told me to reset the CEL and pull codes. The problem is that damn CEL is not coming on like it is shorted out. He also said it could be the ignition switch, but he said it could be many other things as well.

Sounds like you are getting the brush off dude. If you aren't getting a CEL then it is not monitored by the computer. If you turn the key on and the CEL comes on and goes off then the light is working.

Time to get a engine/transmission capable scanner on it.
And fix that check engine light.
Post back code no.
