Hello, i am new to this whole "roatary" thing. My GF bought an FC3S a while back, as it was her dream car. She doesnt have her license, and as my 300zx is still being fixed she is letting me use it.

I love the damn thing and am planning on buying one, but thats not what this is about.

I was driving her car home and got into a race with a 2.5RS. In 3rd gear, at about 5 grand i noticed that the engine is burning oil.... quite a bit (fair sized cloud). But 4.5K revs and below there isnt the slightest hint of it. It also bruns oil when it first starts until the engine gets warm.

Also when i first start the engine it revs at about 2 grand until it gets warm, then drops to about 750. about the same time as it stops burning oil.

There is no powere loss, and it is very responsive, great oil pressure (about 4 or 5). Dipstick shows oil at about mid level.

That is about all the symptoms i can think of and any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

(its a 5 speed, if that matters)

Re: 87 Fc

most of that is normal, especially if the car has been sitting for a long period of time.

as you drive the car more it should go away.

oh and make sure you take it to redline each time you drive to get the crap out of the engine (likely carbon buildup)

the 2k startup thing is part of the accelerated warmup system.

by the way, is this car turbo?

Re: 87 Fc

The only way to lubricate the apex seals of the wankel is to inject oil into the combustion chamber. ALL rotaries do it (other than the ones converted to run on pre-mix), so all rotaries use oil. There are oil control seals to keep it from using too much, and it sounds like those may be getting tired, or need to be driven on more to seal up better at high rpms. But yes, oil use is normal.
