I am new to the find used parts game. I have a 1989 ranger that I am going to be renovating soon and would like to know where I can find info on what range of years I can use and if I can use parts from a Bronco II. Are there any spec sheets, books, etc... that can help me? I appreciate any advice you can give.
Thanx |

86-87 models came equipped with EGR, a bigger throttle body, and a knock sensor. 88+ Did not have EGR or the knock sensor. They started using a smaller T.B. that year. The 89+ heads are stronger than the 86-88 heads. A 91-94 Ford 4.0L Explorer Raditor 2 row Max Cooling w/ A/C can be almost directly swapped in for better cooling - less chance of cracking a head. Hoses need trimmed, or 4.0L hoses need purchased. The Left and Right heads are the same. Some Rangers are found with two fuel pumps, one located on the frame rail and one located in the fue tank. 1990+ California Emission ECCs were mass air flow as appose to manifold absolute pressure. They can be swapped in with some wiring modifications. An oil pump primer can be made out of an old distributor, let me know if you need details. A 60 degree fan clutch tool can be purchased at Adanved Auto parts for $13. (Cheapest I've found) It seems that they changed the fuel filter setup through out the years. A certain rear end from an Explorer can be used for rear disc brakes, and I believe it was an 8.8" rather than the 7.5". I am not certain on the details. The 4.0L A4LD was the same as the 2.9L A4LD, with the only difference of having harder internal parts. You could essentially rebuild a 2.9L A4LD with 4.0L parts, but it's just cheaper to get the transmission from the junk yard. Some o2 sensors were 3 wire or 4 wire. Pete |

Thanks Psychopete, that was alot more than I expected and extremely helpful. I know someone that has an '87 that said he would part it out for me if the years were swappable. I just need some body parts from him as well as some glass, but I need to do some minor mechanical stuff as well that I probably will use new parts on.
Thanks again, Bonzo |
