1990's Topaz - how many miles/what problems on yours?

Wondering what others are experiencing with their 1990's Topaz -

Has anyone done CV joints? transmission? major engine work?

How many miles on yours?

I have a 1993 Topaz GS @ 128,000 miles.

Engine and transmission seem excellent.

I bought it used (11,000 mi) from the dealer in 1993 , and seemed to

need tie rod ends every year. Somehow it hasn't needed any lately.

Replaced two water pumps ; 80,000 mi and againat 126,000.

Replaced EGR valve around 126,000 mi .

Replaced struts around 100,000 mi

Replaced gear shift cable around 126,000 mi - (car was stuck in

1st gear, wouldn't shift) .

Replaced power window motors.

A/C hasn't worked in a while.

Oh yes, I forgot:
There was a recall for a 'pulley damper'? ; also
Ford had some bad ignition switches, big recall for that - it caused a fire in my (electric) radiatior fan up front.

We have a '93 Topaz, it just turned 132,000 miles and has been great over all! I do have a few questions for ya though! I have a service engine light that comes on when motor is warm. I read the codes and got those that point to the throttle position sensor, egr/pcv system. Did you do the work on yours? Where is the egr valve(2.3), were you able to reset the computer after reading codes, and both front windows were power but seem to be off the track-switches work as I can hear both motors come on but windows don't budge. I also have a bad "clicking noise" that seems to be coming from the serpentine belt area. I thought it was the a/c clutch as the a/c died, but I am leaning towards a motor mount. As the noise goes away above 1500 rpm while driving, and I am positive it's not an internal engine problem. Any idea's?

Hey guys I am from the dsmtalk forums and I know there are really smart people lurking on some of these forums, my gf 93 topaz has a problem where it will just die while it's running and after it dies it WON'T start for like 5 minutes if she mashes on the gas a bunch eventually it starts, the ecu is new the distributer a couple other things are new and the fuel pump is registering at 50 pounds and it should only be at 30....Any smart people want to tackle this????

Hi yes Im doing work on a 1993 topaz right now! Im having a problem with the car not wanting to shift to second or so on and its because of the speedogear that has broke and now needs to be replaced. Ill let you know how it goes!
