92 olds 98 self leveling struts probelm

I put self leveling struts on an 92 olds 98 and It will not self level. It is also riding really rough in the rear. I have checked the pump out and have voltage but not sure what each pin on the connector is supposed to have and when it is supposed to have power. Right now I have 12 volts to one pin in the connector even when the card is off Where is the sensor for the self leveling and do you have any ideas on what to look for. I checked with local gm dealer and they told me that the pump head may need to be rebuilt. Has this happened to anyone? Appreciate some help!!

If your pump is under the hood (I've seen some at the rear quarter; just can't remember what year or model car), there is a spare lead attached to the harness that connects to the pump. You can connect this to the 12+ on your battery to check if the pump is turning on. The adjusting lever is on the right rear control arm. I've never had to diagnose a pump, so I don't know what kind of pressure the pump should be putting out.

Thanks for the info. I did get it to work by moving the self leveling arm but only after I went to the local GM dealer and checked the repair manual. It didn't work before because I didn't let it sit long enough after I moved the arm. It takes from 17 to 25 seconds for it to start working. Mine was about 17 seconds. I then had problems with leaking on the connection to the strut itself. I put AC delco replacement struts on it instead of the OEM, but the connections were the same on both brands. I then had to half cobble it together but it seems to work fine now. I think GM could have put a little more thought into the connection to the strut. They didn't even offer the right part that I needed to replace the old connector.
