W.I.P. - 1989 Ford Thunderbird Supercoupe

My first paying customer!

And it's red styrene!

Anywho, the body is currently sitting in brake fluid, because the red bled through the white primer, but here's some early pics.

The real car, as you can see, has a 71-73 Mach 1 style hood. No one makes an aftermarket hood, so I bought one of these:

And cut out the center section of the hood. Then I cut out the center section of the T-bird hood, slid it in, glued it in place, and puttied it smooth. Sorry I couldn't get any WIP shots of that process, but my old lady stole the camera on the weekend. Here it is prior to finish sanding though:

Kitbash indeed.

It also has 99ish Mustang Cobra style wheels, which I just happened to have in the parts bin.

And so my business begins. Now I just need to finalize a location so I can sell kits too, and have room to work on more than 2 kits at once!

I believe they're stock Cobra wheels. They look identical to the ones on the 1:1 car, and that's what he says the 1:1 car has...

Happy modeling for your first customer, you are off to a great start!

Could it eventually be that the rims are late model Camaro's (stock)?

Oh I'm sorry I was referring to the wheels on the '73 Mustang from the box, and yeah those wheels do resemble Camaro wheels!!!

Lies!

Actually you're probably right. Either way, they look almost identical to the wheels on the car, so I'll go with them

Re: W.I.P. - 1991 Ford Thunderbird Supercoupe

Interesting... Stripped the paint off the body to start over (as discussed in the RED STYRENE ARGGH thread)... learned that brake fluid also dissolved most of the Tamiya filler putty. Oops.

Anyway, I guess that gives me an opportunity to show you how I did the hood:

Some more W.I.P. ... quite proud of the blackwash on the tranny, personally...

Another update, engine's mostly together... I'm going to have to kitbash my own coilpack, the stock one has NO room to even THINK of drilling holes for plug wires...

Further updates, engine is wired and essentially ready to go... (blower hat is a one piece that goes to the intercooler so it's not on there yet...)

Seatbelt buckles are in, seatbelts themselves are almost done. Interior doesn't look too shabby IMO. Still one coat of white primer to go on the body.

Those wires sure bring the engine to life. That is one heck of a serpentine belt, never seen so many pulleys. Did you make the seat belt buckles or are they part of the kit? The red on them adds much to the grey interior, and I wouldnt mind them in one of my interiors.

Nope, they're mine. In fact I don't think I've ever seen a kit with seatbelts (Except the odd ones molded into the seat itself.)

I just fabricated them with some scrap styrene. I think it really brings the interior to life too. The belts will hopefully add to that as well.

Why do they make red strene kits if it bleeds through?
