tie in strut tower supports.

I ran across a few places selling them and it started me thinking. For those of you like me who prefer to fabricate our own stuff, I am finishing up my own that I started. It began as a strut tower brace from a mid 2000 olds 88. I have some pics of the first fitting I will post if anyone is interested. It does require some modding of the mounts and some welding but it fits very nicely. When I get some time to finish the welding I will get some pics of it finished. I have always enjoyed fabricating my own parts so forgive me if I am boring ya'll.

By all means, post the pics. Fabrication ability is a great thing to have. We'd like to see your handiwork.

Re: tie in strut tower supports.

Do you have it installed where it can be removed fairly easy to get at the rear bank spark plugs? Post the pics.

Re: tie in strut tower supports.

Ok I will post the pics from the rough install tonight. It is not welded together yet in the pics. I have bolts at either end of the crossbar at this point to get the right final adjustments. There is still a bit of tweaking on one mount as well.

Yes it can be removed easily by unbolting the bolts. You could even make the crossbar 2" longer and use bolts there, but I am gonna weld it for strength and security.

Good point. Doesn't make sense to install one unless it is rigid. I never liked the idea of using the aftermarket adapters that go to the upper strut mounting plate bolts. If you pulled up on the cross bar you could see flexing.

Re: tie in strut tower supports.

Ok here are the first pics. Like I said this was the rough draft. The right bracket still needs tweaking to straighten out the bar a little more and the crossbar still needs welded. I am also going to fill in the holes when I weld it all together. This is an off the shelf part for olds and I think buick as well. I can post the finished pics as soon as I get some free time to finish it up. I am also going to see about the fabrication of the rear one as well and will let ya'll know how that goes.
