you better change it yourself! otherwise you are not allow to own a 4g......j/k yeah its a real easy job.

You should just be able to remove or loosen one of the bolts, swing the alternator forward to relieve the tension on the belt, remove the belt, remove and unplug the alternator. Then, put the new one in, only tighten one bolt, put the belt on, then swing the alternator backwards to put tension on the belt, and tighten the bolt while pushing the alternator for tension.

its not that easy. its true that one of the bolts is for the tensioner but if you lossen the tensioner bolt you still cant swqing the alt because the other bolt still hold the alt in place. you need to lossen the bottom bolt and the top tensioner bolt, then you can swing it.
but if your replacing it then its different. first take of the connectors. then take off the tensionser bolt, the top bolt, and then lossen the bottom bolt and swing the alt and take off the belt. last, take off the bottom bolt and the alt should come out. installtion is reverse order. first put the alt in place, then put the bottom bolt on but dont make it tight. then put on the tensioner bolt but dont make that tight teither. put the belt on, now here was kinda the tricky if you have to do ityourself. what i did was pryed a screw driver and pushed the alt so i could remove the slack in the belt, as i did that, i tighten the tensioner bolt, so now it wont swing and the belt doesnt have any slack. now i tighten the bottom bolt. make sure you torque everything down and put on the conectors again. tah dah your done torque specs if you want to nknow: 1) tensioner bolt = 17lbs 2) the connector on alt = 5.79 lbs 3) the mounting bolt = 33 lbs oh i should tell you that. i really did do this all myself but it was on a 92 civic with a b16. but i think it should be teh same.i too lazy to go out and look at my car |

Alternator
Yeah, I've done this one a couple of times, and it's not too bad. The only trouble is getting your hands in there to work. Having a second pair of hands to help is a nice tool, even if it's just someone to say, push on this...
![]() You can always hit autozone and grab a manual too, they come in handy!!

you know what i did, that didn't require jacking up your car and not having to get under there...take out your brake booster...the alternator slipped right out when i unbolted the 2 bolts that held it on.

oh i forgot to mention to tape off teh alt connectors because if they touch metal then its gonna ground. so make sure your connectors dont touch anything metal
